Shri Puruhutika Devi
Shakti Peedam
The Sacred Abode of
Liberation & Ancestral Salvation

THE SACRED STORY OF SHRI PURUHUTIKA DEVI
Once, Goddess Sati, the daughter of Daksha Prajapati and the beloved consort of Lord Shiva, immolated herself in the sacrificial fire insulted by her father.
Overwhelmed with grief, Lord Shiva carried her lifeless body across the universe, performing the Tandava of sorrow.
To restore balance in the world, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to cut the body of Sati into pieces.
It is believed that the seat (back portion) of Goddess Sati fell at Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh. Thus, Shri Puruhutika Devi Shakti Peedam came into existence, a revered Trigaya Kshetram where Lord Shiva resides as Kukkuteswara Swamy.
